Dr. Jukka Viitanen

Dr Viitanen was born in 1966 and earned his Doctorate (Management Information Systems) from Turku School of Economics and Business Administration in 1998, including two years of Ph.D. studies at the ISICS research institute of the University of Tokyo in 1995-1997. His Ph.D. thesis was titled: "The Information Management Strategies in the Global Network Organization", and presented a Mitsubishi Corp. case study on their global business and information management strategies.

Today, Dr. Jukka Viitanen heads Finnish National Technology Agency (Tekes) office in Tokyo. He works as an innovation system and technology transfer specialist with over 10 years of expertise in Japan-related research and business. He is mainly involved in activities in ICT, biotechnology and healthcare fields focusing on R&D commercialization and global business development.

efore joining Tekes on 1 August, Dr. Viitanen was the CEO and Founder of Asia-Pacific Insight Corp. Ltd. (2002-2004) and the Director of the Finnish Institute in Japan (1998-2002).

 

Dr. Mostafa Hashem Sherif

He has been with AT&T in various capacities since 1983. He has a PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles; an MS in the management of technology from the Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey; and is a certified project manager for the Project Management Institute (PMI). Among the books he authored are Protocols for Secure Electronic Commerce, CRC Press, second edition (2003); Paiements électroniques sécurisés, Presses polytechniques et universitaires romandes (2006); and Managing Projects in Telecommunication Services, John Wiley and Sons (2006). He is a co-editor of two books on the management of technology published by Elsevier Science and World Scientific Publications in 2006 and 2008, respectively and the editor of the forthcoming Handbook of Enterprise Integration (Auerbach, 2009) . He is also a standards editor for the IEEE Communications Magazine, an associate editor of the International Journal of IT Standards &Standardization Research, and a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Marketing.

 

Prof. Hiroshi Yasuda

Emeritus Professor, The University of Tokyo
Professor, TokyoDenkiUniversity, School of Science Technology for Future Life, Department of Information Systems and Multimedia Design

He received the B.E., M.E. and Dr.E. from the University of Tokyo, Japan in 1967, 1969, and 1972 respectively. Then, he had joined the Electrical Communication Laboratories of NTT in 1972. After served twenty-five years (1972-1997), with the last position of Vice President, Director of NTT Information and Communication Systems Laboratories at Yokosuka, he left NTT and has joined The University of Tokyo. He acted Director of The Center for Collaborative Research (CCR) for 2 years(2003-2005), and he is now a professor in TokyoDenkiUniversity.

His study area is applied information technology. He has been involved in works on Video Coding, Image Processing, Tele-presence, B-ISDN Network and Services, Internet and Computer Communication Applications. Now he has started researches on DRM (Digital Rights Management), Network Security and “Kansei” (more human) communication. He is now advocating collaboration between Industries and Academia.

In International Standardizing Area, he had served as the Chairman of ISO/IEC JTC1/SC29 (JPEG/MPEG Standardization) from 1991 to 1999. He had also served as the President of DAVIC (Digital Audio Video Council) from September 1996 to September 1998.

He received 1987 Takayanagi Award, 1995 the Achievement Award of EICEJ, 1995-1996 the EMMY from The National Academy of Television Arts and Science, 2000 Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award from IEEE, 2005 Takayanagi Award and 2009 Spring the Medal with Purple Ribbon from Emperor Japan.

He is Fellow of IEEE, EICEJ, and IPSJ, a member of Television Institute. He wrote “International Standardization of Multimedia Coding” in 1991, “MPEG/International Standardization of Multimedia Coding” in 1994, “The Base for the Digital Image Coding” in 1995, “The Text for Internet” in 1996, “The Text for MPEG” in 2002 and The Text for Content Distribution” in 2003.

 

Dr. Atsushi Murase

He received the Electronics and Communications Engineering bachelor degree from Waseda University, Tokyo in March 1981. He also received the Ph.D.
degree in cellular radio control channel design for random access control and paging signal broadcasting from Waseda University in March 1991.
He has broad experience from 1G to 3G mobile communication systems development especially for base stations, controllers and 3G FOMA terminals through more than 20 years activities in mobile communication R&D of NTT and NTT DoCoMo.
He stayed at British Telecom Labs in UK from 1989 to 1990 as an exchanging researcher.
He was President & CEO of DoCoMo Communications Laboratories Europe GmbH in Munich Germany from 2002.
He was Managing Director of Network Management Development Department, NTT DoCoMo from 2005.
He is Managing Director of Research Laboratories, NTT DoCoMo from April 2007.
